Shostakovich Piano Trio no. 1 in C minor
The intensely beautiful trios by contemporaries Ravel and Debussy contrast with the sharply mercurial trio of the sixteen-year-old Shostakovich. Pēteris Vask’s work is a version of one originally scored with choir: an extended meditation culminating in the miracle of the rebirth of nature as the sun rises and the birds sing in delight.
A combination of fine solo players the Argenta Trio formed in 2015 and has quickly established itself as a leading piano trio equally at home in classic repertoire and new works.
