Archived 5th & 6th November 2014 - "IT'S A LONG, LONG WAY TO TIPPERARY FROM FLANDERS FIELDS" - at The Arden Theatre

The Arden Faversham Nov 5th and 6th at 7.45

Katapult Theatre Company (Kent Equity Members) is presenting a new commemoration review exploration of the songs and poetry of the First World War in The Arden theatre Faversham on Wed 5th and Thurs 6th Nov at 7.45
With a special focus on the way women were changed by and involved in the war, the show presents less well known material by soldiers, nurses, journalists, factory workers and performers, as well as many familiar and popular songs of the time. Mixing pieces on the pity and horror of war with coarse humour, and tender songs with trench bred comic parodies, this show promises to be always entertaining, provocative and full of surprises.
American Broadway songs rub shoulders with bitterly ironic poems and Victorian sentimentality meets ragtime. We hear from those whose job it was to fight the enemy and those committed to healing the injured regardless of nationality. We hear the voice of a woman enjoying working on the busses and the orders of a struggling Field Marshall.
In the centenary year of the outbreak of hostilities in 1914, ‘It’s a Long, Long Way to Tipperary from Flanders Fields’ makes a new contribution to the reawakening of interest in the first world war and its consequences for so many people.
Katapult is returning to The Arden a year after presenting ‘On The Halls’, which went on to tour throughout the southeast and enjoyed a short run in London. The company is dedicated to bringing new and original theatre to audiences in Kent and is run entirely as an actors’ co-operative. The Criterion is a new venue for the company.
